Andorran Residences
Andorra is a small country in the Pyrenees that offers a great attraction for all those people who wish to reside in a country that provides them with great security, in a privileged environment, surrounded by nature, with a good climate and a good quality of life. Andorra is a tourist country, with a great commercial, cultural and leisure offer. It has a very good education and health system and very competitive taxation. All these aspects mean that both professionals and people with high incomes find it interesting to reside in the Principality of Andorra, being able to opt for the following types of residence:
- Self-employed residence
- Residence without gainful activity
- Residence for professionals with international exposure
- Residence for reasons of scientific, cultural and sporting interest
- Residence for digital nomad
Self-employed residence
This type of residence authorizes you to reside and exercise a self-employed activity permanently in the Principality of Andorra.
Requirements for obtaining a self-employed residence permit:
- Having obtained the foreign investment authorization to set up an Andorran company in which the minimum share required by law is held and having legally set up the reference company
- To exercise a position in the administrative body of the same company
- Subsequently open a business duly registered and active in the Principality of Andorra
- Make an unpaid deposit at the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA)
- In the case of a liberal profession, certify that the authorization to practice the liberal profession has been obtained by the Government and membership with the corresponding professional association.
Residence without gainful activity
Any natural person who does not have Andorran nationality and who establishes his main and effective residence in Andorra for at least 90 days per calendar year without carrying out any work or professional activity can be a resident without gainful activity in the Principality of Andorra, although the resident can carry out the necessary activities for the management of his own assets.
Requirements for obtaining a residence without gainful activity permit:
- Accreditation of sufficient financial means established by regulation
- Justify and have in force for Andorra coverage and insurance for illness, incapacity and old age for the applicant and for the persons in his charge
- Documentally prove that you are the owner or tenant of a home
- Written commitment to establish the main and effective residence in the Principality of Andorra and to keep the insurance contract in force
- Investment of the amount set by the regulations in one of the types of assets indicated below:
a) Real estate located in Andorra
b) Participations in the share capital or own funds of entities resident in Andorra
c) Debt instruments issued by entities resident in Andorra
d) Debt instruments issued by any Public Administration of Andorra
e) Unremunerated deposits in the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) by the owner and the persons in his charge.
Residence for professionals with international exposure
A natural person who does not have Andorran nationality and who establishes his main and effective residence in Andorra for at least 90 days per calendar year to develop a professional activity in the following terms is considered a professional with international projection:
- That the headquarters or base from which the professional activity is carried out is located in Andorra.
- That in the development of his professional activity in Andorra, the professional with international projection has at most one person contracted under the labor regime.
- That the services provided by the professional with international projection are mainly intended for people or entities not resident in Andorra (at least 85% of the services provided must be used in any country or territory other than Andorra)
Requirements for obtaining a residence for professionals with international exposure permit:
- Accredit the economic viability of the project that is intended to be started and demonstrate that the project will generate sufficient financial resources determined by regulation to be able to reside in Andorra, both for the professional with international projection and for the people in charge of him, for the entire period of validity of residence for professional reasons.
- That the professional activity to be developed is framed in some of the sectors established by regulation that allow satisfying the quantitative and qualitative needs of the Andorran economy and that the professional with international projection has the qualification and professional experience requirements in the sector of the activity to be developed determined by regulation.
- Justify and have in force for Andorra coverage and insurance for illness, incapacity and old age for the applicant and for the persons in his care.
- Documentally prove that you are the owner or tenant of a home.
- Written commitment to fix the main and effective residence in the Principality of Andorra and to keep the insurance contract in force.
- Unremunerated deposits in the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) by the owner and the persons in his charge.
Residence for reasons of scientific, cultural and sporting interest
A foreign natural person who enjoys international recognition for his talent in the world of science, culture or sports and who establishes his main and effective residence in Andorra during at least 90 days per calendar year.
Holders of said residency can continue to carry out their own professional activities, as long as their main recipients are persons or entities not resident in Andorra (at least 85% of the services provided must be used in any country or territory different from Andorra).
Requirements for obtaining a residence for reasons of scientific, cultural and sporting interest permit:
- Certify that the activity to be carried out in the field of science, culture or sport will generate sufficient financial resources, determined by regulation, so that both the resident and the persons in his care can reside in the Principality of Andorra during for the duration of the residency for reasons of scientific, cultural and sporting interest.
- Justify and have in force for Andorra coverage and insurance for illness, incapacity and old age for the applicant and for the persons in his care.
- Documentally prove that you are the owner or tenant of a home.
- Written commitment to fix the main and effective residence in the Principality of Andorra and to keep the insurance contract in force.
- Unremunerated deposits in the Andorran Financial Authority (AFA) by the owner and the persons in his charge.
Residence for digital nomad
Any person who, in order to carry out his work, does not require a specific geographical location and who uses telecommunications and technology and who establishes his main and effective residence in the Principality of Andorra for at least 90 days per calendar year, can opt for this residency.
Requirements for obtaining a residence for digital nomad permit:
- Accreditation of sufficient financial means established by regulation
- Justify and have in force for Andorra coverage and insurance for illness and incapacity for the applicant and for persons in his charge.
- Documentally prove that you are the owner or tenant of a home.
- Written commitment to fix the main and effective residence in the Principality of Andorra and to keep the insurance contract in force.
